This is another image in my series, The Forces Of Nature, in which a female figure represents, or embodies the spirit of a particular force of nature. I was inspired to do this series by looking at alegorical paintings of earlier periods. It's a long tradition and an interesting one. In the 18th & 19th centuries the general public was well versed on Greek and Roman mythology. I'm attempting to use this approach with a more personal mythology.

In this image, a man has fallen in love with the moon, presented as a lovely woman. I envisioned her embodying as all things feminine, but there's an inherent meloncholy in the scene. The man stretches out his arms, as if to embrace her, coming ever so close, but he can only love her from afar.
