New York Series. This oil painting is one of an ongoing project to capture motion through time in a single painting. I focussed on pedestrians along 7th Avenue and West 4th Street for this image. I use a digital camera and photograph a few dozen pictures, all from the same spot, taking random shots of the movement on the street. Later I work with these shots to create a frieze-like composition, where the same figure might appear at different intervals, almost as if it were a scen from a movie. The design is then tranlated to canvas, a nice combination of ancient art techniques with 21st century image editing. The result is a painting that appears to be in constant motion.
