This painting was done as a commission for clients who had liked other sweeping waterscapes I had done in the past, but had missed the opportunity to buy those, so the commissioned me to do a scene for them. They were quite specific about what they wanted in the picture, iconic landmarks and boats, typical of the beautiful bay views here in Sarasota.  With persistence and some rearranging of reality, I was able to combine it all into what i feel is a pleasing composition. I also involved the clients in the design phase, listening carefully to their likes and dislikes as well as what the wanted to see in the image. The foreground boats are a good example of a change requested by them. They wants some boats beached there and I basically moved a cluster of boats about 50 yards to be in the frame. Not literally of course! The boats really helped make the composition better.
