THE TURNING TIDE was painted in a very loose style, though strangely it holds together as a quite realistic painting. U am after the fee,ing of the place, the emotional and visual experience of being in this little harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine. I have painted here a few times and have been starte=let to watch as all the boats sudden turn around to face the opposite way, The turning tidehas caught some but not all the lobster boats anchored there, The first time this happened in front of me, I was half way through a small oil of the boats, carefully painting them as I saw them. I had forgotten the tide and its ability to totally mess me up. This time I tok some photos to help me remember the boats.
