Watching the waves crash against the rocky shore of Maine is very therapeudic. It leads one to thoughts of eternity and the vastness of the ocean, whose gigantic forces cause swells to roll across its surface to meet the hard granite. Millions of years have passed and it is still happening. Maybe every thousand years or so a chunck of stone will break off, finally worn away by the relentless pounding, the freezing and thawing.
I called this painting The Unstoppable Force, in reference to the theoretical concept of an unstoppable force meeting an unmoveable object. But the rocks do halt the ocean and are incrementally broken down in the process.
My composition has a sort of Yin/yang effect going on, with the curving sweep of rock, almost mirroring the foaming water. I wanted to get across the wonder of witnessing this ancient dance of nature.
