This painting was done on the spot, a bay full of boats on Mount Desert Island, Maine. I learned the hard way about painting boats in the tidal bays. If you don't work quickly enough, or if your timing is off, half way through the painting the boats will all turn around and face the other way. It plays havoc with your painting!
