I have painted to music since I was very young. There is something wonderful, yet abstract about music that speakes to me as I paint. A passage of notes might suggest a color or a new way of seeing into my painting. In this case, I found myself listening quite a lot to a disc of Bach sonatas for piano and flute, which put me into mind of a rhythmic, patterned approach. I a direct way, I was painting the music. Not the notes in a literal way, but my abstraction of the notes seen as transluscent and shimmering rectangle, floatin across a palm landscape, in a perfectly ordered, yet irrational way. The uncanny thing about the composer's music is that within it;s highly structured, almost mathematical form, it nevertheless manages to evoke all kinds of emotions.
