I began designing this painting a few years ago. I used as my subject a group of Pea hens that I photographed in my neighborhood. There is a flock of peacocks wandering around wild and it can be quite a sight to see a group of them on a lawn. My design wasn't working, somehow. The three birds looked sinister, instead of beautiful and graceful. I didn't feel confident about it at all, so the design languished for a while. I picked it up again recently and tried to make the trio of birds work, but then Debbie suggested I do just one peacock. The idea was nice and simple. I already had the elements of this rather strange composition in place on my computer. The background is made up from trees and vines in my area, as well as a pattern that I created. The whole thing fit together and I even had a large canvas ready, six feet by four. The painting was done mostly in acrylic, with touches done in oil.
