For eons the the cold waves have been crashing into the ancient rock, retreating and then coming back with a new assault. The rock has held, but over time it has been broken and cracked. Unlike the sea, it doesn't become renewed. What rock there is must strand and repell the waves until it is blasted into small pieces, disappearing into the depths.

In this painting, the ocean is painted in mostly cool colors while the rock is done in warmer colors. Like the yin/yang symbol, the rock and water interlock in an eternal struggle.
