There are many moods in New York City and 5th avenue always gets to my emotions somehow. Here it on a cold and wet day, late afternoon, though the sun never really came out much. Still, it's thrilling to be on that avenue, walking along with the crowds while the taxis and limos glide by on the wet pavement. The location is at 52nd, which is also called, "Place De Cartier", in honor of the famous jeweler located there. We're looking south, past Rockefeller Center, down past the New York Public Library, where the view disappears into the mist and steam from the vents that are ever=present in Manhattan. There are always flags flying in that section of the street, including a French flag, a bit of which can be seen on the left.
The feelings this painting brings out in me are excitement, a feeling of pleasant anonymity and a sense that anything can happen here.
