The late summer sun, casting shadows on Brooklyn brownstones evokes a feeling of melancholy loveliness. I painted this from the corner of Dekalb and Washington Avenues, back in 1976. At the time, I sort of liked it, but was dissatisfied by the "imperfections" in the piece. Now, all these years later, I understand that the imperfections were my character coming through, the mood and the emotion in the picture. They are what makes it unique.
