Just around a corner from my home, I saw this scene. I have been fascinated with shadows for a very long time and emphasize looking at shadows in the class that I teach. In fact, I painted this as a class demonstration. Shadows define the space in which an object stands and create drama in a picture. It may seem like the painting is about the Bouganvillea, coming over the top of the fence, but the real subject is the shadow being cast on that fence.
