I painted a smaller version of this scene in 2014 on a visit to Monhegan Ialand. I n addition to my oil study, I took some photographs, thinking I would like to paint a larger version. That large version is this [iece, painted in my studio. What I have been doing with paint these days, is fighting the tendncy to go realistic. It is my natural bent, but I am findin that pure realism is veryr restricting. I'm  seeking to keep the painting always alive and exciting. The work is primarily about the paint and the artist, only as a third thing is it about the particular scene. Yet, it is the scene which I can drape my painting over, giving the paint form and direction.
