40 years ago I began a series of long paintings of people moving across the picture plane. I called them "frieze", a nod to the inspiration from Egyptian wall relief paintings. The idea of a horizontal composition with movement has continued to this day. I am actively working on a continuing study of this format. It has odd compositional characteristics. The eye bounces along in waves that undulate back and forth, unlike the pattern that is usually found in more conventional designs. It seems to imply a story unfolding.

This painting has been stored away for all those years and has never been shown until now, when it is featured in my solo show at the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota, until October 31.
