I have long been interested in the ordinary things we see and often pass by without noticing. When translated into a painting, these ordinary scenes take on a significance that somehow resonates deeply. This is a house from the early 1950s that took on more meaning as I painted it. Perhaps it's the way the light is falling across its surfaces, or the palms that have now grown so tall, they break through the top of the painting.

Those palms have grown, as has the city around the house, but the place feels somehow stranded in time, not willing to jump into the 21st century, instead aging in place, a sweet relic from an earlier time.
